Sand Cave Hike

Dick and I took his sister, Jan, on a day hike to Sand Cave while she was visiting us over Thanksgiving. Sand Cave, in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (CGNHP), is not an actual cave; it is a large rock overhang made of sandstone. The "cave" is interesting with various colors of sand on the floor and impressive swirls and patterns on the ceiling. The room itself is HUGE -- over an acre in size and about 75 feet high in places. You really won't get the full effect of how big it is unless you climb up inside toward the back wall.
